Renew Your Credential

To maintain your New York State Early Learning Trainer Credential, you must renew your credential every three (3) years. The expiration date is provided on the bottom right corner of your certificate. The renewal process ensures that the trainer has participated in personal professional development, provided a sufficient amount of professional development to the field to be considered an active trainer, and offers trainers the opportunity to update their Registry profile with any new relevant achievements.

Requirements for Renewal

Active Aspire Profile

  • Aspire profiles on New York Works for Children expire yearly. It is the responsibility of the trainer to ensure the profile remains in the active. To log into your Aspire profile go to www.nyworksforchildren.org/aspire/go.
  • Please ensure all tabs are complete and your contact information is current as this is what is found on the public search.
    • Note: Any additions you make to your profile must be accompanied by the supporting documentation for verification purposes. i.e. if you are now a CPR and first Aid Trainer, you must submit copies of your instructor certificates OR if you have received additional education or a higher degree you must submit copies of your official transcripts.

Personal Professional Development

  • Trainers are required to complete 30 hours of personal professional development in the 3 year period in order to maintain the credential. Personal professional development refers to education, training or other forms of professional development that the trainer receives (rather than provides) to improve his or her practice.
    • 10 of the 30 hours must be in Adult Education or Adult Learning
  • Credentialed trainers must document their personal professional development on the Aspire Registry.

Professional Development Provided to the Early Care and Education Field

  • Trainers will be required to provide a minimum of 10 hours of professional development per year in order to maintain the credential.
  • Hours of provided professional development must be documented in the Aspire Registry in 1 of 2 ways:
    • Option 1: Through Event Approval – If you submitted your events through Aspire for event approval, these can be used for the renewal. Please note: past events cannot be put through Event Review
    • Option 2: Through Professional Contributions – You can submit the professional development you provided over the past 3 years into the Professional Contributions area ion the Account-Professional Tab. Please note with this option you will need to upload the agenda and attendance roster for each group training you have entered. (Higher Education: a letter from the department chair regarding your status and courses taught will be accepted)

Renewal Process (Available in November 2015)

    • Please note: Failure to complete the renewal will result in removal from the trainer search and ability to collect EIP dollars.
  • If a trainer fails to renew in the 90-days beyond the expiration date the trainer will be deactivated and will have to reapply and go through the portfolio review process.
